Changes For This Release

The new options added are:

        maxdata= (limit the data created for all files)
       maxfiles= (limit the number of files for all directories)

      These ideas come from IBM's Blast Tool!

The following changes were made to dt Version 17.07:

• The maximum data created by all files can be specified via the maxdata= option. This is useful if you know the file system space, and wish to either divide this space between multiple test clients (NAS testing), or prevent dt from encountering a file system full condition (which is handled properly now).

  Option Format:

      maxdata=value      The maximum data limit (all files).
  

• The maximim files created by in all directories can be specified via the maxfiles= option. This is useful if you don't wish to do the math to figure out how many files per directory and/or subdirectory are required to say create 1 million files.

  Option Format:

      maxfiles=value   The maximum files for all directories.
  

• The directory path, previously required via the dir=path option, is now optional, if you of= or if= options specify a directory path. dt will detect the path, and automatically setup the directory path for you, making it easier to add multiple files/directories to existing scripts.

     Before: dir=/var/tmp of=dt.data (two parameters)
         Now: of=/var/tmp/dt.data gets broken into dir=/var/tmp of=dt.data
  

  Note: This setting of dir= is only done when multiple files is selected, so files=, sdir=, and/or depth= options must be specified. But now, one can easily add say DT_PASS_THRU="files=1k sdirs=100 depth=10" to enable multiple files.

  One Bug Fix Included: When dir=path was specified, if the last part of the path was NOT created by dt (it already existed), then dt erroneously deleted the directory. For example: dir=/var/tmp/dtdir, directory dtdir was deleted if it previosuly existed.

• Switched to using GetFileAttributesEx() on Windows so the 64 bit file size can be obtained. Previous stat() method returns only 32 bits for file size (st_size), which limits us to 2GB (signed 32-bit value).
